Hello,
Today we will hear a very good story.
There was a very big village. What was the name of the village? The name of the village was Vedantpur, what? Vedantapur. Vedantapur was very big, so it had a variety of things, and different types of people and many children lived there.
Four very good friends lived in a street. What were the names of those four? One of the four was named Nachiketa, the other was Shvetaketu, the third was Satyakama and the fourth was Atharva.
The four friends went to school together, studied together, played together.
What did they play? Many types of games- gilli-danda, sometimes badminton, sometimes jumping, sometimes playing with clay tractors, sometimes playing with marbles, sometimes playing hide-and-seek, and sometimes even cricket whenever they got time.
One day in the evening when these four used to go to play, the other three children came to Nachiketa’s house.
And said, “Nachiketa, today we all feel very much like to play. Whatever happens today, we will play.
Nachiketa said, “Okay, it’s time to play.”
In this way, all four of them left for the (playing) ground, which was a little far from the house.
Now since all four were small children and did not listen to anyone, they did not even walk to reach the playground. They used to run fast. So, what happened on the way that the stones were lying in the way. There are some bad people who unnecessarily stone the animals. Unnecessarily hit dogs, cows, or cats etc. Similarly, someone must have hit the dog with a stone and the same stone was lying on the road on the way.
These four were going running and as soon as he stepped on the stone, Shvetaketu slipped and fell. And as he fell, there were other stones around which hurt his knee and started bleeding.
Nachiketa was a little older in the four of them, so he immediately put his hand on the knee from where it was bleeding to block the blood flow. After that he said to Satyakama, “Look Satyakama, our friend Shvetaketu fell down and got hurt, you go home and inform some elder member of the house that Shvetaketu has slipped and fell and got hurt due to which blood is flowing. Bring the doctor for a bandage.” Nachiketa said so.
Satyakama said, “I am not going. I wants to play today, I already told you that whatever happens today, I must play.”
Nachiketa said, “Well, you are not going, then Atharva you go.”
Atharva said, “Hey! I also want to play. I also came with Satyakam to you and told that today we want to play and have to play.”
Nachiketa began to think and said to himself that how are these people! Here Shvetaketu is hurt badly, and they are saying that they only want to play.
“What should be done?” Nachiketa thought.
After thinking for a while, Nachiketa said to both of them, “Well, tell me, what do you both want?”
Both said, “We all want to play.”
Nachiketa said, “Okay, now tell me what will happen if no one goes home and plays here?”
They both thought a little, “What will happen? We don’t know.”
Nachiketa started saying, “Can’t you see this in front of you! Svetaketu is hurt and bleeding. If he continues to bleed like this, will he not get sick seriously, will something dangerous not happen to him?”
Both said, “Yes, something will happen to him.”
Nachiketa said, “You want that?”
Both said, “No”
Nachiketa said, “If you don\’t want that, then go home so that the dressing can be done.”
Both of them said, “But our mind is saying something else. It doesn’t want to go to home”
Nachiketa said, “The mind may want to play, but do you want something to happen to Shvetaketu? Would you like it?”
They said, “no”
Nachiketa said, “Then whether you want or do not want, do what is necessary at the moment.”
Both said, “Why so? We were told to do whatever we want.”
Nachiketa said, “No, it is not so. Don’t do what you want, you must do what is necessary and right at the moment. What’s more important now – playing or dressing up the injury?”
Both said, “dressing of the wound.”
Nachiketa: “Then! go whether you want to or not.”
In this way Nachiketa explained to both.
Finally, both said, “Okay! We don’t want to go to home, but you are saying that it is necessary and right thing to do now that’s why we are going to inform someone and bring the doctor.”
In this way, they agreed with great difficulty and went home and brought the doctor along with some elder member.
The doctor put a bandage on Shvetketu’s wound and asked all four of them to walk carefully. The doctor also asked Shvetaketu to take rest for 3-4 days till the injury heals.
After three or four days, Shvetaketu got cured and they all started playing again.
One day when they were playing, Nachiketa said to Satyakama and Atharva, “Do you remember that day when you didn’t want to go to home? If you would have listened to your mind, would we have been able to play with Shvetketu today?
They both said, “Yes, you are right. If both of us had done as per our minds that day, we don’t know what would have happened. From today onwards, both of us will do whatever is necessary and right, irrespective of whether we want it or not.”
Nachiketa said, “Well done! From today onwards we will do whatever is right and necessary. Whether it feels good or bad”
